KEY ECONOMIC INDICATORS
All critical economic indicators in the Morgantown Metropolitan Statistical Area have surged in the past two decades and our unemployment rate has remained low, currently 3.8% (Nov. ‘18).
North Central WV has added 2,500 net new jobs (July ’17-Dec. ’18), primarily in energy and construction. Real wages in North Central WV have increased 18% since Q1 2013.
Our prominence in both of the recession-resistant sectors of higher education and health care employment is one reason for the stability in our area. The WVU Bureau of Business and Economic Research calls for “continued healthy growth” for Morgantown well into the future.
